You cannot know where statues are hidden on the start of a level, but once you destroy the first grass layer (it usually consists of two layers) you can see what’s below so you that to your advantage. They are hidden below the grass, which covers a whole tile on the start of a level. One of the most common objectives found in Meow Match is to find and collect a certain number of cat statues. In Meow Match every level is beatable with the right strategy but more importantly, you can’t pop random tiles. If the objective asks to unlock statues than try creating combos on parts of the board that hide those statues. If the objective asks to pop a certain number of colored tiles, try matching just those or create power-ups that can destroy tiles of the color needed for the objective. You have to give an advantage to tiles tied to the objective. In order to beat a level, you can’t just chase big combos and start matching tiles without any order.
